Alberta has launched a new interactive map so that Albertans can understand the level of risk in their community and learn about any enhanced health measures at the local level, giving additional information on what they need to do to keep themselves and their loved ones safe and protected.

Data from June 8 show only 355 active cases and 44 people in hospitals across Alberta. This is a decrease of almost 70 per cent in active cases since May 14 – when the province began stage one of the Alberta Relaunch Strategy.

Jason Kenney announced that Alberta is moving to Stage 2 of the relaunch on June 12th and movie theatres, gyms, pools, libraries, casinos and churches can reopen on Friday.

The new interactive map is defined by municipal boundaries with over 10,000 people. As Alberta moves forward through the reopening of its economy locally targetted measures might be required to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Regions are designated as open, watch or enhanced relaunch status. All regions must continue to follow Alberta’s public health measures and guidelines, regardless of relaunch status.

Regions classified Enhanced will require additional public health measures to control the spread.

Regions are designated Open when there is a low level of risk with less than 50 active cases per 100,000, while Watch region has at least 10 active cases and more than 50 active cases per 100,000. The province will be monitoring the risk and discussing with local government(s) and other community leaders the possible need for additional health measures in Watch regions.

Currently, no communities in Alberta need locally targeted enhanced measures.

Albertans can subscribe to regional alerts to know about the status in their regions.
