The grounds of the Alberta Legislature will be all aglow with twinkling lights beginning Wednesday evening when Celebrate The Season returns for the 2025 holiday season.
Alberta’s Legislature grounds are lit with over 100,000 Christmas lights every year. The lights wind through the large trees surrounding the fountain and continue to the south side of the Grounds.
The festivities commence on December 3 with a festive Light-Up ceremony and activities.
From 6 to 8 p.m., the Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre will be open with free family-friendly activities, musical performances, and hot chocolate.
A Light Up ceremony is scheduled from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the outdoor stage on the south end of Violet King Henry Plaza, featuring a festive performance and the lighting of the Legislature grounds, including the main Christmas tree.
From 7 to 8 p.m., enjoy performances by the Cosmopolitan Chorus and Overtones Handbell Ensemble.
Donations for United Way will be accepted. Visitors can access the Borealis Gallery, Capital Gifts, the Democracy Discovery Centre, and the Pehonan Theatre.

The celebrations extend beyond the inaugural event, with Celebrate the Season events scheduled to run from December 5 to 20 in the historic Legislature Building rotunda. These include musical performances every Friday at noon and 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 6:30 p.m., featuring various Edmonton and area schools, as well as community groups.
The Annual Candle Lighting Ceremony in honour of Chanukah (the Festival of Lights) at the Alberta Legislature is scheduled for December 14.
