Andrea Bocelli’s Easter Concert – Live-streamed Globally from Milan’s Duomo Cathedral

Global music icon, Opera Singer Andrea Bocelli will perform at the historic Duomo Cathedral on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020. Since Italy is in lockdown following the Covid-9 pandemic, the event would not be open to the public. However this performance, aptly titled ‘Music for Hope‘ will be live-streamed globally on Andrea Bocelli’s YouTube channel.

Joining Andrea Bocelli will be the Cathedral Organist, Emanuele Vianelli who will be playing one of the world’s largest pipe organs. This concert will consist of select sacred music pieces arranged specially for solo voice and organ, and will include the Ave Maria setting by Bach/Gounod, John Newton’s ‘Amazing Grace’ and Mascagni’s Sancta Maria.

The concert is organised by the City and Duomo of Milan to promote the message of “love, healing, and hope to Italy and the world.”

Accepting his invitation, Bocelli said, “On the day on which we celebrate the trust in a life that triumphs, I’m honoured and happy to answer ‘Sì’ to the invitation of the City and the Duomo of Milan.”

“I believe in the strength of praying together; I believe in the Christian Easter, a universal symbol of rebirth that everyone – whether they are believers or not – truly needs right now,” said Andrea Bocelli. “Thanks to music, streamed live, bringing together millions of clasped hands everywhere in the world, we will hug this wounded Earth’s pulsing heart, this wonderful international forge that is reason for Italian pride. The generous, courageous, proactive Milan and the whole of Italy will be again, and very soon, a winning model, engine of a renaissance that we all hope for. It will be a joy to witness it, in the Duomo, during the Easter celebration which evokes the mystery of birth and rebirth.”
