An Australian insurance market comparison company has compiled a list of top cities for a girl’s getaway and Calgary is in 3rd place. Alberta’s biggest city is also the only Canadian city to feature in the list.

comparethemarket.com.au says they first compiled a list of the world’s most popular destinations by choosing hashtags such as #girlstrip and #girlsweekend from social media. From there, they compared hotel room rates from KAYAK.au, the cost of a mid-range bottle of wine from a local supermarket, domestic beer of 500ml in a restaurant, taxi price and even McDonald’s McMeal or equivalent combo meal. The scores for each factor were then weighted and summed to provide a total score out of 20.
comparethemarket.com.au found that an average cost of a three-star hotel in Calgary is approximately AUD $158.34, and a taxi ride starts from AUD $4.16. It states Calgary “has the most spas out of everywhere on our list, at 174.”
The website recommends visiting Calgary Tower and Calgary Zoo before heading to Banff and Jasper.
