About Calgary Zoo

Operated by Alberta’s oldest charity, Calgary Zoological Society, Calgary Zoo is the second largest zoo in Canada. The zoo which had its origins in early 1900s, suffered extensive flooding during June 2013 Calgary floods. The zoo was closed during this period and reopened in November 2013.

Calgary Zoo is also a leading Canadian Centre for conservation and is home to Centre for Conservation Research with many endangered animals in its care.

Meet giant pandas Er Shun, Da Mao and cubs Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue in their brand-new home at the Calgary Zoo.

Visit the penguins at the Penguin Plunge, meet Canada’s impressive animals at the Canadian Wilds, explore the tropical rainforest pathways, see the gorillas, snakes and crocodiles at Destination Africa and greet the tigers and the red pandas at Eurasia.

Take a trip back to the prehistoric times in the prehistoric park, let your kids have a wild time in the zoo-nique playgrounds and learn about the flora and fauna in Dorothy Harvie Botanical Gardens and ENMAX Conservatory.

There are many events and programs including summer camps for kids, family programs like sleepovers, Behind the scenes and Enrichment.

Where & How to get to Calgary Zoo?

Calgary Zoo Location & Directions

Located in Bridgeland, Calgary zoo is just east of the city’s downtown and adjacent to the Inglewood and East Village neighbourhoods.

The zoo is accessible via Calgary’s C-Train (McKnight/Westwinds) route 202, by car via Memorial Drive and by bicycle and footpath via the Bow River pathway. A large portion of the zoo is located on St. George’s Island on the Bow River.

West entrance Directions- Start at the Eau Claire Trans Canada Trail Pavilion.Travel east along the Bow River pathway (with the Bow River on your left) and walk past two bridges. When you come to the third one – the Old Langevin Bridge, Cross the river and continue traveling east along the pathway. You will pass by one more bridge and walk under yet another one. Shortly after you pass the Bridgeland/Memorial CTrain Station it will be time to cross the river once again at the Baines Bridge. Continue south on Zoo Road N.E. until you reach the west entrance of the Calgary Zoo.

North Entrance (Main Gate): On St George’s Drive.

There are two parking lots, North Lot near the main entrance & West lot near the west end of the island.
A $10.00 daily parking fee is in effect. Engage and Inspire Members receive FREE parking after 8:45a.m. – See here
