Canadian families will receive slightly higher Canada Child Benefit payments beginning July 20, as the tax-free benefit is adjusted for inflation.
The Canada Child Benefit, commonly known as the CCB, is a monthly tax-free payment for eligible families raising children under 18. The updated payments take effect in July 2026 and continue through June 2027.
Under the new rates, families may receive up to $8,157 a year for each child under six. That works out to $679.75 a month.
For children between six and 17, the maximum payment will be $6,883 a year, or about $573.58 a month.
The amount a household receives depends on the number of children in its care, their ages and the family’s adjusted net income from the previous tax year.
For example, a family with a five-year-old and a nine-year-old, along with an adjusted family net income of $65,000, is expected to receive about $11,430 during 2026–27. That is nearly $400 more than the family would have received in the previous benefit year.
Canada Child Benefit 2026-27 Amounts and changes
- Children under six: Maximum annual payment rises to $8,157, or $679.75 per month. That is an increase of up to $160 per child.
- Children aged six to 17: Maximum annual payment rises to $6,883, or $573.58 per month. That is an increase of up to $135 per child.
- Maximum-income threshold: Families with adjusted family net income (AFNI) below $38,237 receive the full benefit.
- Higher-income threshold: A second reduction formula applies once income exceeds $82,847.
Families with income above $38,237 will see their benefit gradually reduced. For one child, the reduction is 7 per cent of income above that level until family income reaches $82,847. Different percentages apply to families with two, three, or at least four children.
