Canada Ranks in Top 10 Wealthiest Countries by Total Private Wealth

Do you own a mortgage-free detached house in GTA or Metro Vancouver? Then, you most probably are a millionaire and may have contributed to Canada’s standing as one of the top 10 wealthiest countries in terms of total private wealth.

Today, Henley & Partners released their inaugural Henley Global Citizens Report ranks the countries in terms of total privately-held wealth. Total wealth refers to the private wealth held by all individuals living in the country, including all their assets in property, cash, equities, business interests less any liabilities.

 

The report says the U.S. with USD 68.8 trillion in total private wealth accounts for 32% of total global wealth and 36% of the world’s millionaires.

Canada is the 8th wealthiest country with USD 6.2 trillion in total private wealth. Canada has 364,100 individuals with more than 1 million dollars in net worth, 12,220 multi-millionaires (USD10m+), 524 individuals with more than 100 million dollars and 43 billionaires.

The United States’ high-net-worth population growth increased by 10% in the last year, while Canada’s population of high net worth individuals grew by 5%.

Henley Global Citizens Report says US’s 10-year high-net-worth population growth is forecast at 20%, China’s at 50%, Japan’s at 30%, while Canada’s high-net-worth population is expected to increase by 30% in the next 10 years.
