Digital Dealership Registration: Ontarians Can Register Cars, Get Vehicle Permit Replacements Through Dealerships

Today, Ontario announced Digital Dealership Registration (DDR) program through which those who buy new vehicles can register it online through car dealerships.

The news release says permits and licence plates will be issued directly to consumers through Digital Dealership Registration.

Currently, the program is available only at select dealerships.

The government says, once the program is fully implemented, the DDR process will be available at over 7,000 Ontario car dealerships eliminating duplicative paperwork and time-consuming trips to ServiceOntario centres.

“Implementing the new Digital Dealership Registration process is yet another way our government is cutting red tape for businesses and improving the speed and ease with which Ontarians access government services,” said Ross Romano, Minister of Government and Consumer Services. “We’re helping build a stronger Ontario by making common sense changes like eliminating needless paperwork, saving consumers and the dealerships that serve them their precious time, energy, and money.”

Once DDR is implemented across the province, Ontarians can do registrations for pre-owned vehicles, vehicle transfers, and vehicle permit replacements at dealerships.

Ontario is expecting up to 4.8 million dealership registration transactions annually through DDR.
