Canada Post has released a new stamp set, paying homage to the influential early years of MuchMusic and MusiquePlus, pioneers in the Canadian music television scene.

These stamps commemorate the iconic venues in Toronto and Montréal that hosted these channels, capturing the vibrant energy of the fans who would flock to these sites.
Launched in Toronto in August 1984, MuchMusic quickly became a cultural phenomenon, reaching five million households in just a few years. It was one of Canada’s first specialty cable channels, offering a new way to experience music through videos. MusiquePlus followed suit in 1986, broadcasting from Montréal and becoming a key platform for Francophone artists.

The stamps feature the distinctive buildings of MuchMusic and MusiquePlus, illustrated from the perspective of an enthusiastic crowd that often gathered outside these stations. The lively, colorful depictions are part of an eight-stamp booklet printed by Lowe-Martin, including two official first-day covers.
This release follows Canada Post’s tradition of celebrating Canadian music and musicians, joining past issues that honoured stars like Sarah McLachlan, Leonard Cohen, and The Tragically Hip.
