The Public Health Agency of Canada has unveiled a new guide aimed at providing comprehensive support to families during the postpartum period.
Titled “Your Guide to Postpartum Health and Caring for Your Baby,” the guide offers valuable information and resources covering various aspects of postpartum care, including physical health, mental health, family health, nutrition, breastfeeding, and even addressing pregnancy and infant loss.
Recognizing the challenges and concerns faced by new parents, the guide aims to serve as a trusted source of information to help them make informed decisions regarding their family’s well-being. It is part of a series of publications by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) that focuses on maternal and newborn health, encompassing the entire spectrum from preconception to postpartum periods.
The PHAC emphasizes the importance of adopting and maintaining healthy behaviours during these critical life stages, as they can have positive long-term impacts on the overall health and well-being of the family. The agency collaborates with provinces, territories, and community-based organizations to further support parents and families, channelling an annual investment of over $80 million into programs such as the Community Action Program for Children and the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program.
