Launched last December, Canada Dental Benefit provides financial assistance to eligible families, ensuring that dental care expenses for children under 12 are covered.

Per the news release, over 300,000 children 300,000 received dental care services through the first phase of Canada Dental Benefit.

The first benefit period concludes on June 30, 2023, and families are encouraged to schedule appointments before then to ensure eligibility.

From July 1, 2023, families can apply for the second benefit period, with up to $650 available per eligible child based on income, for dental care services between July 2023 and June 2024.

Families will get tax-free $650, $390, and $260, respectively for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is under $70,000, between $70,000 and $79,999, and $80,000 and $89,999, respectively.

Acknowledging that access to affordable dental care is crucial for all Canadians, the government has announced the Canadian Dental Care Plan as part of Budget 2023. With an investment of $13 billion over five years, starting in 2023-24, and $4.4 billion ongoing, this plan aims to provide comprehensive oral health care coverage.

It will support up to nine million uninsured Canadians with an annual family income below $90,000, with no co-pays for those under $70,000.

The plan is expected to begin rollout by the end of 2023, with full implementation targeted by the end of 2025.
