Banff Sunshine Village will set to host the competition on April 25, 2026 and the event will take place at Goat’s Eye, where up to 30 teams will race downhill in self-built vehicles before plunging into an icy pool, aiming to make it across to the far side.
Applications are now open to Canadians aged 18 and older and must be submitted by February 6, 2026.
Each application requires a team lineup and a sketch of the proposed vehicle. Teams must consist of two to four people and will be judged on creativity, performance, and the difficulty of their jump.
Selected teams will be announced later. While applying is free, teams are responsible for the cost of building their craft and travelling to the event. All vehicles must be delivered by April 18.
Vehicles are subject to strict requirements. Each craft must be no more than four feet wide, four feet high, and 10 feet long, with a maximum weight of 50 kilograms excluding riders. Fully functional steering and independent braking systems are mandatory, and only environmentally friendly, non-toxic materials are permitted.

The winning team will receive a Red Bull Jump & Freeze trophy along with Sunshine Village season passes for each team member for the 2026–2027 season. Second- and third-place teams will also receive trophies. Additional awards include prizes for the fastest craft and a fan-voted People’s Choice award.
The event is free and open to spectators. Food and beverage options will be available on site, along with a dedicated area for participants to warm up and change.
Red Bull Jump & Freeze has previously been held in countries including Japan, Slovakia, and Kazakhstan. Banff is considered the birthplace of pond skimming, with the tradition dating back to 1928, making Banff Sunshine Village a fitting location for the Canadian debut.
