Set against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and the scenic Cape Breton Highlands, Cape Smokey offers a year-round retreat where adventure meets serenity.
As the first destination in Atlantic Canada to house a gondola, it invites you to embark on a unique journey and uncover its mesmerizing beauty.
Amazing Views From Up Above:
From the summit of Cape Smokey Mountain, witness the panoramic views of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, the picturesque Keltic Lodge, and the bustling village of Ingonish.
The expansive seascape might even treat you to a glimpse of a whale tail or the rhythmic dance of fishing boats.
More than Just a Ride:
The gondola ride is just the beginning. At the peak, indulge in some local delicacies from the Summit Shack or dive deeper into the area’s rich history and biodiversity with a guided hike. The guided hike is available Friday to Sunday at 11 am and costs $10 per person, with a Gondola ticket purchase required.
If you are early, don’t miss the awe-inspiring experience of the “Burning of the Fog.” Watch as the dense fog gracefully dissipates when the sun shines bright, unveiling the majestic landscapes of the Cape Breton Highlands and the vast Atlantic. This natural spectacle is a testament to how Cape Smokey earned its evocative name.
For those craving aquatic adventures, kayak rentals await at Hawley’s Lake, offering a serene paddling experience. Kayak rentals are currently free for a limited time with the purchase of a gondola ticket. The 1.6km hike each way to reach the kayak location offers a unique adventure in itself.
