The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed the recall following laboratory results obtained during a probe into the ongoing foodborne illness incident.
The affected chocolates—sold online and in physical locations—come from multiple brands, including Les Sucreries Chocofolie Inc., Chocolats Favoris, and others. Specific items include:
- Chocofolie: “Chocolat Dubaï – chocolat au lait kunafa & pistache,” 145 g, all codes from 225097 to 225184.
- Chocolato: “Chocolat Dubaï – chocolat au lait kunafa & pistache,” 145 g, all codes from 225093 to 225132.
- Chocolats Favoris: Dubai Chocolate – Pistachio & Knafeh Milk Chocolate, 145 g, all lots from 225133 to 225203.
- Dubai: Pistachio & Knafeh Milk Chocolate, 145 g, UPC 6 11834 51237 1, codes from 225093 to 225184.
- Vincent Sélection: Dubai Chocolate – Milk Chocolate, Knafeh & Pistachio, 145 g, UPC 9 90016 40673 9, lots from 225097 to 225161.
Salmonella bacteria can cause fever, headache, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and, in severe cases, life-threatening complications—particularly in children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Contaminated products may appear normal in taste and smell, making visual inspection unreliable.
The CFIA urges consumers to check their pantries and immediately discard or return the recalled chocolates. Anyone who has eaten the affected items and developed symptoms should contact a healthcare provider.
The agency is monitoring the removal of these products from the marketplace and warns that further recalls may follow as the investigation unfolds.
