The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has announced a national recall of Kendamil brand Infant Formula with whole milk due to the presence of cereulide toxin, a chemical contaminant.
The product was distributed across Costco stores in Canada. Consumers are advised not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled formula. Any affected packages should either be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
Two specific batches of Kendamil Costco Classic First Infant Formula 1049g: 897274 and 888632 are being recalled. These batches were sold exclusively at Costco Canada beginning in June 2025.
Cereulide is a toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus. It is notably heat stable, meaning it is unlikely to be destroyed during cooking or while preparing infant formula. When illness occurs, symptoms typically develop quickly after ingestion and most often include nausea and vomiting.
The recall in Canada follows a similar action in another country. At this time, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the product.
The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation and is verifying that the recalled product is being removed from store shelves. The agency notes that additional recalls could follow if necessary.
According to Kendamil’s notice, the issue applies only to Canadian customers who purchased the product at Costco Canada. No other Canadian retailers are involved, and no products sold in the United States are affected.
CFIA says there have been no complaints or reports of illness and that store stock has already been replenished, making it unlikely the recalled batches remain available.
Consumers who believe they became ill after consuming the formula are advised to contact a healthcare provider.
