Cirque du Soleil’s captivating arena production Corteo is set to dazzle audiences at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax for the first time in June of 2024, with a limited six-performance schedule.
Directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, Corteo first debuted in Montreal in April 2005 and has since enchanted over 10 million viewers across 22 countries on four continents, marking its 1000th arena show this month. The Italian word for ‘cortege,’ Corteo is a jubilant parade conceptualized by a clown, blending the actor’s passion with acrobatic grace and power, creating a whimsical world balanced between the ethereal and the earthly.
The narrative centralizes around a clown envisioning his own funeral in a carnivalesque setting, overseen by benevolent angels. This contrast of the grand and the trivial, the magical and the flawed, underscores the clown’s vulnerability and wisdom, reflecting the essence of humanity. The play’s music is both lyrical and lighthearted, propelling a timeless festivity where fantasy flirts with reality.
Corteo introduces an innovative central stage in the arena, dividing the audience and providing a novel viewpoint for both spectators and performers. This unique layout, combined with set curtains reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower and hand-painted central drapes, establishes a grand and poetic ambiance, a first in Cirque du Soleil’s arena shows.
Tickets for the Halifax shows are available to Club Cirque members starting today, with a general on-sale commencing on Monday, December 11. For free Club Cirque membership, visit parties can visit clubcirque.com.
