Lost baggage and misplacing passengers’ wheelchairs have plagued Air Canada for the last couple of years. To combat this, Air Canada has now introduced a new feature in their mobile app, enabling customers to track their baggage and mobility aids in real-time during domestic flights.

This development aims to enhance the customer experience by providing added confidence and convenience throughout their journey.
The feature allows travellers to monitor the progress of their checked items at various stages, including check-in, airport handling, and upon arrival. Per the news release, this real-time tracking is based on the same tag-scanning system used by Air Canada employees. Initially available for domestic travel, the feature will later expand to U.S. flights and eventually select international destinations.
For customers who need to check mobility aids, the feature also includes tracking for these items, confirming that they are securely loaded before the aircraft’s departure. Additionally, the tracker’s “What’s Next” feature informs customers about the next steps for their belongings, including specific information like the airport baggage carousel number for pick-up.

Per the news release, the app also addresses instances of delayed baggage. It provides notifications and enables customers to file a delayed baggage report directly from their smartphones. Air Canada says this functionality aims to save time and streamline the process of dealing with delayed items.
Besides the tracking feature, the Air Canada mobile app offers various self-service capabilities. These include flight booking, check-in, real-time flight status and gate change notifications, airport maps, and other travel-related information. The app is available for download at no cost from Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
