Events Description
In Hvolsvöllur, Iceland, two women imagined and created a sewing project that took seven long years and seven months to complete, called The Saga of Njal.
The world was invited to participate, and the tapestry was sewn and embroidered by not only many local Icelanders, but also people of all ages from 150 countries and six continents. This massive tapestry measures 90-metres long. It may be the longest, continuous, hand-embroidered tapestry on earth. A Ferðarefill (Traveling Tapestry), is a 5 meter long section that will be on display at the Scandinavian Centre on July 12 & 13 from 1pm-4pm.
On Saturday, July 12, Claudia Pétursson will give a presentation on the tapestry. LEIC will also be offering hot dogs to celebrate the event. Sunday, July 13, there will be an open house with coffee and an Icelandic dessert available for purchase ($5.00 – cash only).
