Events Description
The spectacular and colourful three-time GRAMMY Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir comes to Calgary this holiday season with Peace. This evening of powerful song will celebrate American and South African artists associated with the struggles for civil rights and social justice throughout their countries’ complex histories. Expect to hear South African freedom songs as well as the music of Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Mahlia Jackson and others combined with traditional African gospel music and spirituals.
Praised by critics as a “jubilant celebration of music, hope and unity” (Glam Adelaide) that is a “riot of exuberance” (The Scotsman) performed by “an insanely talented group of singers” (X-press magazine), Soweto Gospel Choir is an awe-inspiring 20-member ensemble that thrills audiences worldwide. Through its earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, brilliant costumes and infectious spirit, a Soweto Gospel Choir performance truly elevates the soul. Join us for an uplifting evening of celebration with Werklund Centre’s Special Presentation of Soweto Gospel Choir’s Peace.
