Events Description
Harry Manx, often called an “essential link” between East and West, masterfully blends the soulful traditions of blues with the intricate depth of Indian classical ragas. Born on the Isle of Man and raised in Canada, Manx’s musical journey took him across Europe, Japan, India, and Brazil. In the mid-80s, he began a transformative five-year tutelage under Rajasthani musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, who gifted him the Mohan Veena, a 20-stringed sitar-guitar hybrid that became his signature instrument. This unique fusion of Eastern and Western sounds defines Manx’s “mysticssippi” style, creating a captivating and genre-defying musical experience.
First Set: Susan Isaac
Susan Isaac is a Manitoba-born folk singer/songwriter making music in Edmonton. A powerhouse vocalist and multi-instrumentaIist, Susan crafts enduring songs reflecting on themes of land, loss, home, belonging, and parenthood. While solidly situated in the folk genre characterized by her fingerstyle guitar and signature storytelling, Susan’s slow-cooked lyrics and melodies also display pop sensibilities and country leanings, with the occasional classic rock chorus thrown in for good measure!
