Based out of Kelowna, British Columbia, Dirt Road Opera’s journey began back in 2016 when JUNO nominees Rachel Matkin, Barry Mathers and Jim Ryan once again teamed up to make music. The three had previously worked together on albums by the Cruzeros, a well known Canadian country band. Their mutual love of Americana/ Roots music inspired them to start writing and recording an album of their own and a year later their debut album Nowheresville was released. They’re known as the writer, the singer and the musician. Barry, an award winning songwriter, Rachel the gifted singer and Jim the classically trained musician who began playing at the age of three. Harmonies are a big part of DRO’s sound and Rachel and Barry’s voices we ave effortlessly through their music with Jim’s third part topping it off. The band has kept active during the pandemic by releasing videos from the record as well as filming concerts for social media. A strong following is building in Canada and Europe and plans for touring and more recording are currently in the works.

Started her music career in Kelowna B C then continued in Vancouver B C . where she worked as a studio singer for jingle companies as well as lead vocals and harmonies on original albums. Virginia has toured B C as a working musician and is currently recording an original album at Red House Recording Studio, to be released later this year. Her first public performance was at the age of 5. Coming from a very musical family, she has always had music in her life. Staying creatively active, Virginia owns a landscaping company and designs small garden spaces and container gardens. Art is also a part of her creative process working in water colours and acrylics. Music, Gardening and Art…they are all contected.
