June 24, 2018

Vincent Massey Park, Riverside Dr at Heron Rd, Ottawa

Events Description

The Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival is an event that truly represents the cultural diversity of our urban Indigenous community, with full participation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit artists. This diversity within our own cultures is reflected in all elements of the event, from leadership to the selection of artists representing each of the Indigenous communities. We stay true to diversity each year, as we include headliners and workshop leaders from the Métis, Inuit and First Nations communities.

Indigenous Day Live: The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) will celebrate Indigenous Day Live.

The Long Table Feasts will be exquisitely catered by Chef David Wolfman (of “Cooking with the Wolfman”) with other special invited Indigenous chefs! Includes entertainment.

Festival and Pow Wow: Summer Solstice’s Main Stage ignites with emerging, local and top talent. See Holly McNarland, Digging Roots, captivating storytellers and stunning new talent LIVE on our Main Stage all weekend long!

Jump into the fun with our thrilling inflatable “Stunt Jump”, encounter live Birds of Prey, then test your skills on our Rock Climbing Wall.   Watch , learn and participate at our From the Land Arts & Crafts  Pavilion and see indigenous chef’s in action  and sample some tasty bites in the Indigenous Culinary Arts Pavilion.  There’s an Indigenous artisan market  where you can buy handcrafted souvenirs and delicious food vendors tempting you with authentic and familiar flavours. We have exciting family-friendly entertainment all weekend on our Celebration Stage, and APTN will thrill us with emerging local performers and top talent from across Canada for Indigenous Day Live on 23 June!

The heart of our festival is our competition Pow Wow. Extremely visual, this competition Pow Wow attracts some of the best singers and dancers from across North America to compete for $75,000 in prizes. An exciting way to experience the rich culture we have drummed up for you.
