Events Description
The script is taken directly taken from the short novel written by Dickens himself!
It is the classic with Jacob Marley, Scrooge’s one-time partner, appear as a ghost on Christmas Eve to warn Scrooge that he must change his ways or he will share the same fate as he does – “To want to interfere in the lives of men for good, but have lost the power to do so. And now they roam forever in remorse.”
Marley tells Scrooge that he has arranged for 3 ghosts to visit him and help him to change his life and save himself.
First is the Ghost of Christmas Past and we see Scrooge as a young man and find out how Scrooge became the man he is now. From his school, to his sister, to his first job with Mr. Fezziwig, to his engagement and then to his breaking of that engagement as money becomes more important to him than people.
Second is the Ghost of Christmas Present and we see all that Scrooge turns a blind eye to. There is Bob Cratchit’s family and Tiny Tim who will probably not reach another Christmas. There is his nephew Fred who speaks of his uncle Scrooge with love even when Scrooge has pushed him away.
Third is the Ghost of Christmas Past and we see how the world has not remorse over Scrooge’s passing. From the men at the stock exchange who will not go to the funeral unless there is food, to the charwoman, the housekeeper and the undertaker who have all met at the second-hand man who will buy items each has stolen from the now-dead-Scrooge while he was on his death bed. The following morning is Christmas day and Scrooge is now a changed man. He is determined to erase the things that the third ghost showed him. First thing, he sends a turkey to the Cratchit family. Second thing he goes to join his nephew Fred and his family for Christmas Day.
The day after Christmas we find Scrooge giggling while he waits for Bob Cratchit to come to work. When he does Scrooge pretends to be his old-self, but begins to giggle as he plays a trick on Bob. It is a lovely way that the story ends.
