Events Description

Over the last half century, Burnaby has gone from a single art gallery in a library basement gallery to a vibrant arts scene with theatres, sculptures, and festivals across the city. What started a coalition of arts organizations has now become what we know as the Burnaby Arts Council (BAC). Since 1970, the BAC has sketched out the foundations of a presence for the arts in the city, and filled it with colorful works of visual, literary, musical, and performing arts. As we look into the past, we will see a culmination of the efforts that brought us to where we are today.

So, what does this city look like through the eyes of artists now? Look through their eyes in our upcoming exhibition. This special exhibition will commemorate our 50th year with curated works by current local artists and a retrospective look at the Burnaby Arts Council history for the past 50 years.

We invite you to explore the past, present and future of arts in Burnaby at our exhibition, Art Since 1970, from September 5 to October 3, at the Deer Lake Gallery.
