Events Description
Créatrices d’images is a solo exhibition by Vancouver-based artist Laurence Belzile. This body of work is centered around five main large-scale abstract paintings inspired by five women artists that influenced her practice: Betty Goodwin, Faith Ringgold, Françoise Sullivan, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Marlene Dumas.
Honoring each of the five artists, Belzile references their work within her own: the choice of colours, the tools employed, the composition, and the concepts explored. Alongside her abstract paintings, she displays research of their works by sharing reference materials, sketches, and experimental work.
Through an intimate study of her muses, Belzile situates herself within a lineage and community of women artists.
