Events Description
The Lamb Barbeque is a joyous celebration of Canada Day, centered around a traditionally prepared open fire barbecued lamb meal and features delicious local lamb, barbequed over an open fire and sliced right onto your plate, coleslaw, Spanish rice, buns, coffee, tea and cookies.
As well as the feature meal, the event includes all day live entertainment, local crafts, entertainment for the children, veggie burgers, hamburgers and hot dogs, an adult beverage garden and a host of other activities. For more activity details, check things to do at the Barbeque.
Things to do at the Saturna Lamb Barbeque
The grounds at the Barbeque site (Hunter Field) – adjacent to Winter Cove park – open at 10:00 a.m. Canada Day July 1st. Local live musical entertainment is featured on the outdoor stage throughout the day
Booths on the grounds offer souvenirs, local crafts, ice cream, pop, bottled water, tea and coffee, veggie burgers, hamburgers and hot dogs, cinnamon buns, used books sales and information about the new Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. There’s a dunk tank and a country-style golf driving range. A bingo tent offers a chance to relax for a while and test your luck. As well, there is face painting, a dart booth with prizes and an old-fashioned coconut shy for the kids.
The Beverage Garden offers beer and cider and a shady spot to sit and enjoy it, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. No personal liquor, including wine or beer, may be brought onto the site. Emergency services on the grounds include first aid, fire protection and RCMP officers. Around noon, there are free games, again with prizes, for all ages to enjoy. They include races, sack races, balloon tosses and nail driving contests. There is a brief Canada Day ceremony, with a minimum of formalities. Entrance to the site is free but those wanting the lamb barbeque meal will need to buy tickets for it.
