The holiday train is part of Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway’s initiative to support food banks by raising funds and awareness.
Since its first journey in 1999, the Holiday Train has raised over $24.3 million and collected more than 5.3 million pounds of food for community food banks. The initiative aims to combat hunger, encouraging attendees to contribute healthy food items or monetary donations.
At each stop, local food banks receive financial contributions from CPKC and donations from attendees to support those in need during the holiday season.
CPKC Holiday train comes to Edmonton every two years, and this year, the train will stop at the usual location of CPKC Station at 7935 Gateway Blvd from 8:15 p.m. on December 12.
Following the Edmonton stop, the train will continue to Calgary and Banff, heading to British Columbia and ending the journey in Port Coquitlam on December 20.
What to Expect:
- The train’s vibrant LED lights and holiday designs illuminate its 1,000-foot length, creating a festive atmosphere.
- Each stop features a performance stage that lowers from the train’s boxcar, where entertainers perform holiday-themed and original songs.
-
- On its Central Alberta journey, MAGIC! and Sofia Camara will entertain the crowds. MAGIC!, a Canadian reggae fusion band known for their global hit “Rude,” released their fifth album Inner Love Energy in 2024. Portuguese Canadian artist Sofia Camara, inspired by vocal legends and rock bands, rose to fame through emotive TikTok covers, earning over 4 million likes and support from stars like Miley Cyrus.
- Local food bank officials join the presentation, highlighting the impact of the initiative on their communities.
