Edmonton Allows Public Alcohol Consumption at 124 Picnic Sites Across 18 Parks This Year (2022)

Last year, Edmonton debuted a pilot project which allowed public consumption of alcohol at 47 picnic sites across seven parks in the River Valley.

This year, the city is expanding the pilot by allowing public drinking at 124 picnic sites across 18 parks from May 1 to October 10, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Park sites will include both bookable and “first-come, first-served” picnic sites.

The city says adults may consume alcohol safely and responsibly only at those picnic sites marked by signage.

You are not allowed to drink alcohol at any other picnic sites in other parks or at picnic sites that are not part of the pilot project unless they have a festival and event licence.
