“Your gas guzzler kills,” was the message left on the windshields of more than 30 SUVs in the Glasgow Heights and Stanley Park areas of Kitchener.
Waterloo Regional Police says they received complaints that tires on SUVs were deflated on July 17, 2022. The tires were deflated with a device which slowly leaks air overnight and there was no damage to the tires or the vehicles.
These SUVs were parked on driveways and roadways in the area and the police.
The police believe the incidents occurred in the early morning hours of July 17.
An environment activist group called Tyre Extinguishers, which began in the United Kingdom has claimed responsibility.
The group says they want to “make it impossible to own a huge polluting 4×4 in the world’s urban areas.”
“If I buy an SUV will it be vandalised by climate protesters?”
Yes. Yes it will.
The @Telegraph tells its readers not to buy SUVs in case we target them.
Our campaign is working. We will make it impossible to own an SUV in the world’s urban areas. But only if you join in! pic.twitter.com/IfYnJ2I1rB

Tyre Extinguishers are not just against SUVs which use gas as fuel.
Calling hybrids and electric cars, “fair game,” their website which provides instructions on how to deflate a tire states, “We cannot electrify our way out of the climate crisis – there are not enough rare earth metals to replace everyone’s car and the mining of these metals causes suffering. Plus, the danger to other road users still stands, as does the air pollution (PM 2.5 pollution is still produced from tyres and brake pads).”
