8.Instrumental Society of Calgary Concert
To help celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, the ISC presents Calgary’s brilliant Neil Cockburn and the ISC Virtuosi, 16 of Calgary’s finest musicians, all conducted by Rolf Bertsch, in this programme of works for winds featuring a brand new Canadian work especially composed for the occasion, Schafer’s youthful and exuberant harpsichord concerto and Richard Strauss’ powerful and most substantial work for winds. 9. New Orford String Quartet
Four like-minded musicians formed the New Orford String Quartet five years ago with the goal of developing a new model for a touring string quartet. Their concept – to bring four elite orchestral leaders together on a regular basis over many years to perform chamber music at the highest level – has resulted in a quartet that maintains a remarkably fresh perspective while bringing a palpable sense of joy to each performance.
