1. Lisa LeBlanc with special guest

Lisa LeBlanc came blazing out of her quiet francophone New Brunswick hometown (pop. 51) on an incandescent trail of banjo notes. Armed with fiery Acadian charm and a voice that sounds like it should belong to a road-seasoned veteran twice her age, at just 22 Leblanc became a bona-fide superstar in francophone Canada with her eponymous 2012 debut album.Details

2. Elvin Bishop & Charlie Musselwhite

A rare meeting of musical minds, Hall of Famers Elvin Bishop and Charlie Musselwhite come to Calgary to share the stage for a stripped down tour of American roots music – an electric journey through rock, blues and folk from two of music’s most legendary bandleaders. Details

3. Locomotive Ghost “Into the Glow” Album

Locomotive Ghost recently recorded their fourth full-length release, “Into the Glow”, with award-winning producers Russell Broom and Spencer Cheyne. The group supported the project with a successful crowdfunding campaign in the spring of 2016. “Into the Glow” melds earnest expression with contemporary folk music stylings and relatable indie-pop hooks. 4. The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer

Shawn ‘The Harpoonist’ Hall and Matthew ‘The Axe Murderer’ Rogers evoke much more than just grisly nautical imagery. Armed with an arsenal of harmonicas, a mess of foot percussion, and a road-worn Telecaster, the duo kick out raw and primal blues in the tradition of a ‘decades-deep blues style’ (Scott Brown, What’s up Yukon), while infusing the genre with a jolt of renewed energy. 5. Land’s End Competition

Land’s End Competition and Workshop for Emerging Composers:
Land’s End Ensemble continues to celebrate 20 seasons of new music-making with the 17th edition of our Composers Competition! Join us for a behind-the-scenes look as we dissect and perform new works by three of Canada’s most exciting young composers. Throughout the evening, the composers will break down and discuss their works with the musicians, the audience, and a curated panel of judges. We invite you to put your ears and imaginations to work in voting for the Audience Prize at the end of the night. This event is presented in partnership with the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts. Details

8.Instrumental Society of Calgary Concert

To help celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, the ISC presents Calgary’s brilliant Neil Cockburn and the ISC Virtuosi, 16 of Calgary’s finest musicians, all conducted by Rolf Bertsch, in this programme of works for winds featuring a brand new Canadian work especially composed for the occasion, Schafer’s youthful and exuberant harpsichord concerto and Richard Strauss’ powerful and most substantial work for winds. 9. New Orford String Quartet

Four like-minded musicians formed the New Orford String Quartet five years ago with the goal of developing a new model for a touring string quartet. Their concept – to bring four elite orchestral leaders together on a regular basis over many years to perform chamber music at the highest level – has resulted in a quartet that maintains a remarkably fresh perspective while bringing a palpable sense of joy to each performance. The Quartet is joined by international soloists Cho-Liang Lin and Orion Weiss for a performance of Chausson’s Concerto for Piano, Violin & String Quartet. Details

10. Calgary Civic Symphony

The Calgary Civic Symphony continues to showcase the brightest of Calgary’s young musical talents, the winners of the 2017 Calgary Concerto Competition (C3): Angela Ryu, violin (17 years), Jessica Ma, piano (14 years), Joan Herget, cello (15 years) and Joshua Wong, piano (13 years). Details
