4. Joel Plaskett & Bill Plaskett Solidarity Tour

Many Canadian music fans know Joel Plaskett. The JUNO-Award winning songwriter and Polaris Music Prize Short List nominee has sold out clubs and concert halls from one side of the country to the other. In 2017 he’ll be sharing the spotlight with his earliest musical influence- his father, Bill Plaskett. Solidarity, is the first full-length musical collaboration between father and son and is a powerful collection of original and traditional songs, reflecting the duo’s individual journeys and personal politics. Details

5. Alex Cuba and Friends

Born in Artemisa, Cuba, and now based in Smithers, BC, Latin Grammy and Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Alex Cuba’s sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks, and powerful guitar riffs relinquish conventional Latin music stereotypes in favour of his own Latin soul music. In a unique Canada 150 concert only heard in Koerner Hall, Alex is joined by his father, as well as Jim Cuddy (from Blue Rodeo), and other special guests.  Details

6. Louis Lortie

The London Times describes pianist Louis Lortie’s playing as “ever immaculate, ever imaginative” and celebrates his “combination of total spontaneity and meditated ripeness that only great pianists have.” Lortie has won widespread acclaim for his interpretation of Ravel and Chopin, and is renowned all over the world for his performances of the complete Chopin etudes. Since 2009 we’ve been filling the best venues in over 30 cities around the world with your favorite local artists, photographers, bands, and DJ’s. We focus on keeping the work on display local and original to help artists of all types sell their work while they’re still alive (why does it take dying to gain recognition?). Each show usually features between 50-150 local artisans, a unique lineup of live musicians and/or DJs, live painting, body painting, along with other forms of entertainment.
