On April 8, 2024, central and eastern Canada will experience a momentous celestial event—a total solar eclipse, the first of its kind to traverse Canada in six decades.

This astronomical phenomenon will sweep diagonally across North America, from southwest to northeast, with prime viewing opportunities available in southern Ontario, southeastern Quebec, central New Brunswick, northeastern PEI, and central Newfoundland.

 

The city of Kingston, with Kingston Tourism and Queen University, is gearing up to welcome visitors with plenty of activities and viewing events for the eclipse, which takes place from 2:09 p.m. to 4:34 p.m. on April 8th.

For those seeking an extraordinary vantage point, Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises & Trolleys offers a unique Eclipse Cruise aboard the Island Queen.

This three-hour journey on the water provides guests with a prime viewing experience of the eclipse’s totality, which occurs between 3:22 and 3:25 PM.

Passengers will enjoy appetizers, a complimentary drink, and an unobstructed view from the top deck, with special glasses provided for safe eclipse viewing. A full-service bar with snacks and drinks for purchase adds to the convenience, ensuring a comfortable and memorable experience.

Departing from Crawford Wharf at 1 Brock Street in Kingston, the cruise emphasizes the historical and natural beauty of the 1000 Islands region. Alongside the eclipse, passengers will be treated to sights including Fort Henry, the Royal Military College, and Kingston Penitentiary.
