Explore Whitchurch-Stouffville’s Unique Attractions For Free This Saturday

Whitchurch-Stouffville is celebrating its 22nd  Doors Open event on June 6, 2026, featuring 14 sites and a self-guided walking tour, offering the public unique experiences to explore the town’s rich heritage and culture.

The event, part of the provincial initiative Door Open Ontario, will showcase cultural, architectural, and environmental heritage through a range of activities and partnerships, highlighting notable examples of adaptive reuse.

Here are the notable places to visit during the event:

  • Historical Walking Tour: Back Streets of Stouffville(19 Civic Avenue): Stroll through Stouffville Centre North, designated a Heritage Conservation District in 2024. This 1.5-hour guided walk departs from the Clock Tower at 11 a.m., highlighting local heritage, award-winning properties, and the community’s Commemorative Plaquing Program.
  • Bill Fisch Forest Stewardship and Education Centre (16389 Highway 48): VisitYork Regional Forest at this LEED Platinum-certified centre, built with local and recycled materials. The energy-positive building supports forestry education and offers displays and facility tours during Doors Open, highlighting sustainability, innovation, and environmental stewardship in York Region.
  • Borlak Law (6372 Main Street): Visit Borlak Law, located in the circa 1895 Victorian home of William Todd, a village carriage maker. Explore the historic house, admire its architecture and original stained-glass windows, and learn about the legal services offered by the business today.


  • Harmony Hall (14663 Woodbine Avenue): Opened in 2024, Harmony Hall occupies the former 1921 Vandorf Community Hall, now transformed into a live-music and cultural venue. During Doors Open, enjoy historic displays, acoustic performances by local musicians, light refreshments, and the chance to perform your own song.
  • Blue & Silver Farm   (17019 Woodbine Avenue): A 75-acre property built in 1860 and donated to Pickering College in 2021 by educator Charles Boyd, offers rich outdoor learning experiences. Visitors can tour the historic farmhouse, 1905 barn, greenhouses, forests, and an outdoor kitchen, all designed to support education in a natural setting and honour Boyd’s lasting legacy in teaching and community.

  • Richmond Hill Live Steamers (15922 McCowan Road): Discover the fascination of miniature railways with demonstrations and limited rides at this outdoor model railway, featuring historical train replicas.
  • Holy Theotokos Convent/Joyous Light Candles (4369 Faulkner Avenue): Tour the Greek Orthodox convent and candle factory, enjoy Greek culinary treats, and learn about the convent’s history and adaptations.

  • Jean-Baptiste Lainé Site (99 Reeves Way Blvd): Dive into the history of a late-16th-century ancestral Wendat community at one of Southern Ontario’s largest archaeological sites through self-guided tours and staffed interpretation table.
  • Muddy York Brewing Co.(50 Innovator Avenue, Unit #1): Opened in 2023, Muddy York Brewing Co. is Stouffville’s only brewery and a popular gathering spot for residents and visitors alike.  During Doors Open, guests are invited to take a staff-led tour of the facility and learn about their locally crafted beverages.
  • Shadow Lake Centre (15041 Ninth Line): Explore this 120-hectare property featuring a lake, forest, walking trails, and century-old buildings dating to circa 1923. During Doors Open, visitors can enjoy walking tours, historical slideshows and displays, plus family-friendly field games and campfire activities for children.
  • Stock & Crown (27 Winona Drive): Stock & Crown is a local coffee shop and roastery offering coffee education, guided tours, and freshly roasted samples. During Doors Open, visitors can learn about roasting, brewing, and tasting, with tours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
  • Stouffville Creek Retirement Residence (40 Freel Lane): Opened in 2009, Stouffville Creek Retirement Residence offers independent, supportive, and assisted living for seniors. During Doors Open, visitors can enjoy guided tours, meet residents and staff, take part in activities, and see farm animals from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Wesley United Church (15296 Woodbine Avenue): Built in 1881, Wesley United Church features stained-glass windows, original log church planks, and unique heritage details. During Doors Open, visitors can tour the church and adjacent cemetery, hear Jeremy Marchese perform on the ALLEN MDS 40-S organ, and view scrimshaw carved into ivory piano keys.
  • Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum & Community Centre (14732 Woodbine Avenue):  During your visit, explore behind-the-scenes areas to learn how artifacts (18,000) move from donation to display. Highlights include heritage buildings, exhibition galleries, and the restored Bogarttown Schoolhouse, offering a comprehensive look at the community’s preserved past.
  • Willowgrove (11737 McCowan Road): Willowgrove, established in 1968 on a property dating to circa 1800, offers outdoor learning and family fun. During Doors Open, visitors can explore the hayloft, enjoy wagon rides, meet animals, roast marshmallows, browse a pop-up market and visit the camp information booth.
