Bancroft is one such community central to most of the best of what Hastings County has to offer. The town covers the York River Valley and sits amongst dozens of lakes. With this, the town is an obvious getaway destination for anyone looking to make the most of the weather with fall recreation.

Top Fall Colour Hikes around Bancroft
Bancroft’s York River Valley is a great source for beautiful fall walking trails in town. Several more trails are a short drive away from town in the regional and Provincial Parks, including, of course, the nearby Algonquin.
- In town, the best fall colour hike will start from Millennium Park, where a small bridge allows hikers to cross the river to trails leading into or away from Bancroft, where it becomes the Hastings Heritage Trail.
- The best fall views of the York River Valley are within easy access from Bancroft at the Eagles Nest Park. The park features five main trails, including four loops and one direct line from the parking lot to the Hawk Watch Platform. Each trail is under a kilometre in length to allow plenty of time for completing each loop, finding all the lookouts, and taking in the wonderful scenery.
- For some of the area’s best fall wildlife viewing, birding, and fall scenery, Egan Chutes Provincial Park is an easy choice. The park offers more trails along the York River with several lookout points along the short loops.
Fall Paddling around Bancroft
- There are many reasons to make Silent Lake Provincial Park a fall paddling destination: the park offers paddle boat rentals, docks near every campground, and some unique scenery to explore. The motor-free lake is also a nice and peaceful spot for fishing.
- And in the opposite direction from Bancroft, as Silent Lake is boating access to Baptiste Lake, an expansive body of water with several coves to explore.
- One of the area’s smaller lakes for paddling is Papineau, with public access on the south side.

Spend fall days in Bancroft, embracing local history, arts, and culture. This can be done in a number of ways, whether through self-guided touring, festivals, events, or sports.
- Explore the arts and culture with the Bancroft and Area Fall Studio Tours. These tours include meet and greets with photographers, glass workers, painters, jewellers, printmakers, and woodworkers.
- Get more of the local arts from the Art Gallery of Bancroft with rotating exhibitions.
- The Bancroft North Hastings Heritage Museum is a year-round attraction with a variety of exhibits to explore. It will host the local Remembrance Day ceremonies. Stop by the Museum later in November for the Christmas Craft Sale. Otherwise, there is a chance to explore the smaller hidden gems of this hidden gem of a town with the Bancroft Mineral Museum, with over 400 rocks and gems from the area on display.
