The new 165,000-square-foot Walmart Supercentre is expected to open in 2028, bringing a full grocery store, pharmacy, vision centre and general merchandise departments to the shopping centre.

The two-level store will be located at the intersection of Macleod Trail and Anderson Road in south Calgary.

Existing Calgary Walmart Will Relocate to Southcentre Mall

The project is a relocation rather than an additional Walmart location in the neighbourhood.

Walmart will move its existing Supercentre at 9650 Macleod Trail SE into Southcentre Mall, where it will occupy the former Hudson’s Bay premises.

For shoppers, the new location will combine groceries and everyday household purchases with services such as a pharmacy and optical centre.

The grocery department will carry fresh produce, chicken, beef, pork, seafood, deli products, baked goods, dairy, frozen foods and pantry staples.

Shoppers will also find clothing, electronics, home goods, seasonal merchandise and health and wellness products.

Online grocery and merchandise pickup and delivery services will be available.

“Our relocation to Southcentre Mall marks important progress in how we’re evolving to better serve our customers in Calgary,” said Shawn Fujiki, Senior Director of Real Estate at Walmart Canada.

Part of Walmart’s $6.5-Billion Canadian Expansion

The Southcentre location is the fourth new Alberta Supercentre announced under Walmart Canada’s $6.5-billion, five-year investment program unveiled in 2025.

Other Alberta projects include a Fort McMurray store opening October 22, 2026, and new Supercentres planned for Edmonton and Tsuut’ina Nation in 2027.

Walmart currently operates 59 stores in Alberta, employing more than 15,000 people.

Southcentre Mall is owned and operated by Oxford Properties, which manages more than seven million square feet of retail space across Canada.
