The Federal government has introduced a new initiative to honour the service of Canadian Veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, along with their families.
Starting January 1, 2024, Parks Canada will offer free daily admission to these individuals and their immediate families at all national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas managed by Parks Canada.
This initiative aims to support the health and wellness of CAF members, Veterans, and their families by encouraging them to spend time in nature and explore cultural sites. The program acknowledges the positive impact that interacting with nature and cultural heritage can have on stress relief and personal well-being.
Eligibility for free admission is granted through the presentation of the CF One Platinum card, available to serving CAF members, Veterans, and their immediate families, or the Veteran’s Service Card for Veterans.
“Parks Canada is proud to extend a warm invitation to our Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families, by offering free daily admission and a priceless opportunity for wellness, connection, and cherished moments amidst the wonders of our national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas,” said Ron Hallman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Parks Canada in a news release.
“In this, Parks Canada not only opens its doors but also extends a hand in support of the health and well-being of those who have served.”
Parks Canada’s diverse network includes 171 national historic sites, 47 national parks, five national marine conservation areas, and one national urban park. Parks Canada sites already offer free entry to youth aged 17 and under, new Canadians and landed immigrants (for a year via the Canoo app), Indigenous Peoples, and expropriated families.
