Whether you live in Airdrie and are looking for something different to do or you’re just visiting, there are plenty of fun activities to keep the kids entertained! If you are looking for some fun in the sun, be sure check out one of Airdrie’s many parks, including Chinook Winds Regional Park with its numerous playgrounds, skatepark, and water play park. Shamrock Lanes is a fantastic place to get your bowling on, and if you are in the area around Canada Day, the Airdrie Pro Rodeo is definitely worth stopping at.
- Nose Creek Regional Park: There’s nothing like the great outdoors to strengthen the bond between parent and child. If you have a kid who loves to go fishing, Nose Creek Regional Park is a great place to spend the day. Nose Creek Pond is stocked with trout twice each summer months, ensuring the fishing is always good. Not only is the pond great for fishing, but the 20 acre park also includes many natural trails, a concession, an amphitheatre, picnic tables, a covered shelter, fire pits, and more. Bring a baseball and a couple gloves, or maybe a frisbee, along with a picnic basket full of delicious food and you are well on your way to creating memories to last a lifetime.
- Airdrie Farmers Market: Teach kids the importance of locally sourced food, by visiting Airdrie Farmers Market, held every Wednesday, from end of May/early June to Thanksgiving at The Plainsmen Arena. Website
- Shamrock Lanes: Whether for a special event like a birthday party or just something to do on a rainy Saturday afternoon, bowling is always a fun activity to do with the kids. With 12 lanes, Shamrock Lanes offers both 5 and 10 pin bowling options. For added excitement, try glow blowing which is offered on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons. With a delicious selection of food available including nachos, wings, and pizza, you have everything you need to have a fantastic family experience.
- Chinook Winds Regional Park: Chinook Winds Regional Park is one of Airdrie’s best parks for kids. This park has 3 different playgrounds, a fantastic skate park, a spray park perfect for those hot summer days, two seasonal concessions, public washrooms, a perfect winter tobogganing hill, and more. No matter what time of the year you choose to go, kids will love it at Chinook Winds Regional Park.
- Airdrie Pro Rodeo: With children’s events going on throughout the entire weekend, as well as a parade, fireworks, a cabaret, and of course the high calibre of rodeo athletes competing to win, the Airdrie Pro Rodeo will remove the words “I’m bored” from any child’s vocabulary.
- Gwacheon Park: Kids will love checking out the six unique totem poles standing in Gwacheon Park and learning the neat story as to why they are there. Once they are done with the totem poles, they can run and play in the open fields to their heart’s content. Gwacheon Park is the perfect location for a family picnic, to toss a frisbee, or to play an invigorating game of tag.
- East Lake Regional Park: Another great park in Airdrie is East Lake Regional Park. Perfect for the family who likes to stay active together, some of the amenities include 4 tennis courts, a boarded, asphalt surfaced multi-use court that serves as an outdoor rink in the winter, as well as plenty of greenspace. Whatever sport you choose, East Lake Regional Park can provide you the perfect place to play.
- Airdrie Festival Of Lights: Airdrie Festival of Lights is a great way to enjoy the wonders and beauties of the Christmas season. Walk with your kids through the park to check out the lights, or ride the miniature train for even more excitement! With two handcrafted bonfire pits to warm your hands, cook a few marshmallows, and drink some hot chocolate, as long as you bundle up, there’s no need to worry about getting too cold.
- Old Tyme Seeding & Harvest: Learn how people farmed, and harvested in olden days during special seeding demonstration held in Spring and Art of the Harvest event held in September by Airdrie & District Agricultural Society. Kids can see horses and antique tractors and equipment used and learn about various facets of farming. The Society also holds a Ranch Hand Competition where you can see firsthand the cattle handling skills used by local area ranchers and farmers.
- Boardwalk Fries, Burgers, Shakes: With fries, burgers, and shakes reminiscent of a day on the boardwalk, Boardwalk is a fantastic place to take the kids. The food is delicious and much more satisfying than typical fast food fare, with fun menu selections such as build your own burger and bacon cheddar ranch fries. Boardwalk also has a super fun atmosphere that you are sure to notice the moment you step into the diner.
- Nose Creek Valley Museum: Representing over 100 years of local history, Nose Creek Valley Museum is a fun place to take the kids. With over 10,000 artifacts, and displays that include a First Nation’s display, a settler’s cabin, a blacksmith shop, Nose Creek Valley Museum will have kids genuinely curious and interested to learn about the past.
- Iron Horse Park: There’s just something about trains that capture kids’ attention and draws them in. That is way Iron Horse Park is such a fun place to take the kids. This mini representation of the Canadian Pacific Railway includes a 1.6km ride “across Canada” in the 1/8th scale diesel or steam locomotives. Kids will love discovering how it felt to travel like a pioneer! The full sized replica CPR train station offers a snack and souvenir shop as well. With picnic tables on site, why not pack a lunch and make Iron Horse Park an all day adventure?
- Airdrie Parades & fireworks: Who doesn’t love a good parade? AND Airdrie has two, held every Canada Day and a Santa Claus Parade during first weekend of December. Fireworks are also held to celebrate New Year and Canada Day! Website
- YeeHaw Play: With over 8000 square feet to play in with slides, balls, things to climb on, and more, it is a great place for to visit with little kids! There are viewing areas for those parents who would like to sit and relax while their children play, but there is also always the option to go get in on the fun.
