Two new high-speed passenger ferries will connect downtown Vancouver and Nanaimo starting in August 2023.

CNW Group/Vancouver Island Ferry
Vancouver Island Ferry Company will operate the service through its ferry service brand, Hullo, in partnership with Snuneymuxw First Nation.
The electric passenger vessel is projected to take about 70 minutes for a one-way trip between Nanaimo and Vancouver.
Hullo’s summer sailing schedule will include up to seven daily crossings from both locations, with the first sailing from Nanaimo (100 Port Drive) at 6:00 am and the last sailing from Vancouver (1055 Canada Place), at 9:30 pm (subject to special events).
Hullo will offer three seating tiers. The Comfort tier offers reserved seating on the main deck, complimentary Wi-Fi, and fares starting at $29.99.
The Premium tier, located upstairs, includes seat selection, reclining seats, priority offboarding, high-speed Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports, with fares starting at $39.99.
The Business tier offers larger, fully reclining seats, complimentary snacks and beverages, and fares starting at $49.99.
Hullo also welcomes pets aboard, with certain restrictions, and provides space for bicycles, which must be reserved in advance due to limited availability.
The ferries will be named: spuhéls meaning wind, and sthuqi’, meaning Sockeye salmon. These hul’q’umi’num’ names, registered with Transport Canada, will adorn the hulls of the ferries, reflecting their connection to the natural world.
The arrival of the new ferries from Vietnam is expected in late June, paving the way for an exciting and environmentally conscious travel experience between Vancouver and Nanaimo.
