India Day: Grand Parade & Festival Celebrating Returns to Toronto This Sunday

Interested in Indian culture? Want to learn more about it, or just want to celebrate a beautiful and rich culture? Then, head to Nathan Phillips Square on Sunday, August 21st.

India Day is an annual festival hosted by Panorama India with the support of the Consulate General of India. This year, the festival will be celebrating 75 years of the country’s independence.

 

India Day will feature a grand parade around the streets of the square featuring various floats highlighting the myriad cultures & heritage of various Indian States.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. on August 21 at the University Avenue and Armoury Street intersection; head north on University Avenue, then east on Dundas Street, and south on Bay Street. The parade will end at 4 p.m.

You can also enjoy patriotic songs & performances and folk performances from different states of India.

If you find yourself getting hungry while you’re here, there will be lots of food stalls around offering traditional food.

There will be vendor stalls selling a variety of wares like jewelry, and handicrafts. Pick up a few mementos while you’re here.

India Day is held on August 21st, beginning at 12:00 p.m. and running until 9:00 p.m. The festival is free to attend.

Armoury Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 21 for Panorama India Day Festival & Celebrations Parade preparations.
