Any trip to Fort Edmonton Park is a great chance to travel back through Edmonton’s past. From rides around the park on the train, summer days at the 1905 Carnival, or the park’s signature DARK Halloween event, these are all historical and educational experiences that make every visit a bit more exciting.

And for summer 2026, Fort Edmonton Park has added another reason to plan a trip through Edmonton’s interesting history. Visit the historic park this summer for When Shadows Lie: an immersive, head-scratching, and entertaining escape room experience. While there is no actual escape to make from any of the park’s buildings, there are riddles and puzzles to solve or games to play throughout the park that follow an immersive story.
When Shadows Lie is an experience that uses the park’s history and buildings to let guests and game players explore while solving clues that help resolve the story.
Arrive about 15-minutes early to receive a bag of things you’ll need for the game and the lantern that will help light your way around the street and buildings.

You’ll get your introduction to the game from the actors who will make it all immersive right at the start. They’ll provide instructions, as well as the story context and how you, the gameplayers, will help break a curse! The group is split into two groups, each with separate missions, games to play, and riddles to solve.

While there are two large groups, you can still play each game with your close friends or family. And those games and riddles are located throughout select buildings on 1885 Street, allowing you plenty of time to learn about the park. The entire experience will take about 90-minutes.

Explore with caution because this is when shadows lie, and there will be dark things lurking as you explore the old buildings and the sun goes down. This little piece of Fort Edmonton Park creates the perfect setting to immerse you in the experience as the historic areas grow dimmer and dimmer, and your lantern is the light by which you play each game or riddle.
And while you’ll need to be wary of the spooky shadows that lurk and dwell within Fort Edmonton, you’ll also need to remain alert or sharp! These games are tricky and will put your problem-solving skills to the test.
Kelley’s Saloon is open for the duration of the game with local brews on tap, non-alcoholic drinks, snacks, and washroom access.
