Applications for Alberta’s Affordability Payments will open tomorrow (January 18th) at 9 a.m.
Alberta families with household incomes below $180,000 are eligible to receive $100 per month for six months (total of $600) for each dependent child under 18.
Seniors 65 or older with household incomes below $180,000 and who do not receive the Alberta Seniors Benefit can also apply for monthly payments.
Those who receive benefits through Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), Income Support or the Alberta Seniors Benefit, or services through the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program do not have to apply as they are already registered and will automatically receive their $100 payments starting January 31. But, you will have to apply for dependent children under age 18, to receive payments for your children even if you are a recipient of one of these programs.
Foster and kinship caregivers are automatically registered and do not need to apply for children in their care.
You can apply until June 30, 2023 and payments will be disbursed at the end of that month with payments being retroactive to include previous months when a person was eligible.
Alberta says the government will use 2021 tax data from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to verify eligibility based on income.
Applying Online:
Albertans can apply online at https://account.alberta.ca/
You will have to answer a series of questions to verify eligibility and provide your SIN number (for income verification) and banking information so that payments can be deposited directly into your bank account. Applicants without bank accounts can also select to receive their payments by mailed cheques.
As per the news release, you can save the application for completion later.
