Jasper in January promises a vibrant winter festival from January 10 to 26, showcasing the lighter, brighter side of the season in Jasper, Alberta.

This annual celebration offers an array of events for locals and visitors to enjoy the winter months, celebrating with skating, sleigh rides, and culinary festivals.

 

More than 50 events, including concerts and culinary events, are featured in Jasper during the event. Poutine Showdown, where local restaurants compete with their unique takes on this Canadian classic, Whisky Wine & Hops event at Forest Park Hotel, Pyramid Lake sleigh rides, and full moon hikes. The Jasper Under Covers quilt exhibition and a nighttime hike through Maligne Canyon add to the festivities. The Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament brings sports enthusiasts together. The festival culminates in a vibrant Street Party, complete with live entertainment and fireworks.

Some events are free, while others have an admission fee.

Highlights of Jasper in January 2025:

  • The Tastier Side of Winter (January 10-26): Food lovers can indulge in exclusive menus and special dishes crafted to showcase the rich flavours of the season.
  • After Dark Events (January 10-26): Evenings come alive with entertainment, including live bands, comedy shows, DJs, and performances, offering something for everyone to enjoy.
 
  • Snowshoe & Fondue Tour (January 10, 17, 24): This guided adventure begins with a serene snowshoe trek through the Canadian Rockies, followed by a cozy cheese fondue at Whiskey Jack Restaurant. Transportation begins at 2:30 p.m.
  • Winter Wonderland Photography Tour: Photographers of all skill levels can explore the stunning Canadian Rockies on a two-hour guided tour. Participants will visit multiple scenic locations with transportation provided. Expert guidance is available, along with a downloadable photography tutorial.
  • Train Mania at Jasper Museum (January 9-12): Marvel at a 20×30 foot O Scale electric train layout at the Jasper Yellowhead Museum. Featuring 10 powered tracks running simultaneously, this mesmerizing display of motion and engineering is open to visitors by donation.
  • Festival of Galaxies (January 10-11, 14-18, 21-25): Visitors can explore galaxies through powerful telescopes as experts guide them through quasars, spiral galaxies, and more. This is the festival’s seventh annual edition.
  • Sleigh Rides on Pyramid Lake (January 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26): Take a horse-drawn sleigh ride across Pyramid Lake, accompanied by the sound of jingling bells and panoramic views of Pyramid Mountain. Local guides ensure a magical journey for all participants.
  • Full Moon Hike (January 13): Join the Friends of Jasper National Park for a moonlit hike, offering insights into nocturnal wildlife, the night sky, and winter’s serene beauty. An interpretive guide will enrich the experience with educational tidbits.
  • Whisky, Wine & Hops (January18): This après-ski event features wine, spirits, and beer samples, along with classic snacks. VIP packages provide access to masterclasses and premium experiences.
  • Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament (January 24-26): Lake Mildred hosts the Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament, where over 20 teams compete in 4-on-4 pond hockey. With its stunning mountain backdrop, this tournament offers an unforgettable hockey experience.
  • Street Party & Fireworks (January 25): The Annual Street Party on Patricia Street celebrates the festival’s retro roots with live music by Major Love, DJ Suzanne Summers, street performers, and more. The evening concludes with fireworks at Centennial Park and late-night festivities at local venues.
