Lunar Nights: Spectacular Lantern Festival Celebrating Year of the Dragon Coming to Markham in February

The Markham Museum is set to host the enchanting Lunar Nights: Year of the Dragon Festival, an event that promises to be a visual feast with over 250 vibrant lanterns adorning an outdoor trail.

Visitors can immerse themselves in diverse cultural experiences, including interactive international exhibitions within the museum, engaging with traditional vendors, and participating in a variety of activities. These include telescopic moon viewing, encounters with a baby dragon, making wishes at the wish tree, enjoying captivating dragon performances, and taking part in indoor arts and crafts. The festival also boasts outdoor attractions such as an ice skating rink (bring your own skates) and snowshoeing adventures, weather permitting.

 

The festival’s Lantern Trail features 20 outdoor scenes and extends to food trucks and tents located outdoors. Additional non-food and packaged food vendors are found in the Transportation Hall building. For those interested in ice skating and snowshoeing, the outdoor rink is free to use (with personal skates), and snowshoes can be rented on-site for a suggested donation.

The light show is designed to last about 30 minutes, but with the plethora of activities available, visitors can expect a longer and more enriching experience. The festival is pet-friendly on specified dates, with certain indoor restrictions. Access2 cardholders can purchase tickets online, with free entry for one support person.

Scheduled to run on Thursdays to Sundays, with special openings on February 14 and Family Day, February 19, the festival offers an array of activities from 4 PM to 10 or 11 PM, depending on the day.

Located at 9350 Markham Rd., Markham, the festival is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, ensuring an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
