The event coincides with the weekend leading into Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed on September 30.

Nathan Bird, General Manager of Malahat SkyWalk, said the initiative was developed in collaboration with Malahat Nation and is intended to highlight Indigenous artists and entrepreneurs. “The weekend-long event is about connecting, honouring, and celebrating Indigenous artists and entrepreneurs. We hope this is just the beginning of many more opportunities to bring awareness to First Nation culture, history, and traditions,” Bird said.

The program will feature Indigenous dance, drumming, and singing, along with an artisan market showcasing jewellery, crafts, and other works from makers across South Vancouver Island. Visitors will also be able to attend live demonstrations on carving, drum making, and rattle making. Performances are scheduled by the Cowichan Tzinquaw Dance Group and the Growingthunder/Runningbear Family.

Located 35 minutes north of Victoria, Malahat SkyWalk opened in 2021 on the territory of Malahat Nation. The attraction includes a 20-metre-high TreeWalk through forest, leading to a 10-storey spiral tower that provides views of Finlayson Arm, Saanich Inlet, Gulf Islands, San Juan Islands, Mount Baker, and the Coast Mountain range. Since opening, it has welcomed more than 800,000 visitors and has been recognized with multiple tourism awards, including the 2024 EcoStar Award for Experiential Tourism.

The Four Winds event is included with admission to Malahat SkyWalk. A free shuttle service will operate from Victoria for visitors attending the event.
