Toronto – where you can find cuisines from all over the world, and where almost all the languages of the world are spoken — finally got its own MICHELIN Guide.

Ontario’s capital city is the first Canadian MICHELIN Guide destination and the sixth in North America.

The inaugural selection has 74 restaurants including 1 Two-Star restaurant, 12 One-Star restaurants and 17 Bib Gourmand restaurants. MICHELIN Guide Toronto also includes 44 restaurants worth eating at.

 

According to the news release, the MICHELIN Guide selection is based on five universal criteria:

  1. quality products
  2. the harmony of flavours
  3. the mastery of cooking techniques
  4. the personality of the chef in the cuisine
  5. consistency between each visit (each restaurant is inspected several times a year).

The restaurants awarded One, Two and Three Stars serve “exceptional cuisine rich in flavour and infused with the personality of a talented chef”, while The Bib Gourmand is a designation given to select restaurants that offer good quality food for good value. Restaurants at the forefront of practices committed to more sustainable gastronomy are awarded the MICHELIN Green Star.

Christopher Sealy who is the wine director at One Star Alo and One Star Alobar Yorkville won the 2022 Toronto Sommelier Award.
