The minimum wage is the lowest hourly wage that employees must be paid, and it varies by province.
The minimum wage may increase in provinces and territories this year, as the rate is tied to inflation (the Consumer Price Index). Here is the list of minimum wage in Canada for 2026:

- Alberta: $15 per hour (effective June 26, 2019). The minimum wage for students under 18 is $13/hour.
- British Columbia: $17.85 per hour (effective June 1, 2025).

Federal minimum wage:

Federally regulated employers must pay an employee the higher minimum wage if the minimum wage in that province is higher than the federal minimum wage.
