Unlike other cities in the province that restrict fireworks to Victoria Day and Canada Day, Mississauga will be allowing its residents to light up the sky with fireworks in honour of the Lunar New Year.

Mississauga residents can use fireworks from dusk until 11 p.m. on private residential properties on Lunar New Year, falling on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
This decision by the city allows residents to partake in the traditions associated with the Year of the Dragon, fostering a spirit of change, ambition, and appreciation of cultural heritage.
The policy in Mississauga is not limited to the Lunar New Year but extends to other key holidays throughout the year. Residents can also use fireworks at home during Victoria Day, Canada Day, Diwali, and New Year’s Eve, with each occasion having specific timeframes for firework use.
2024 Dates When Private Fireworks Allowed in Mississauga:
- Lunar New Year (February 10, 2024, until 11 p.m.)
- Victoria Day (May 20, 2024, until 11 p.m.)
- Canada Day (July 1, 2024, until 11 p.m.)
- Diwali (October 31, 2024, until 11 p.m.)
- New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2024, until 1 a.m. on January 1, 2025).
This schedule ensures that the use of fireworks is limited to special occasions, balancing celebration with public safety and order.
