The joint bid from Moncton and Saint John was approved by the Canada Games Council, following a collaborative effort by community leaders.
The Games will involve approximately 4,600 participants—including athletes, coaches, and managers—competing in 16 to 20 sports over two weeks. More than 5,000 volunteers are expected to support the event.
“New Brunswick is proud to host the 2029 Canada Summer Games,” said Premier Susan Holt in a news release. “We’re excited to welcome folks from across the country and show off everything we love about our beautiful province; from our caring people to our culture, our food, and so much more.”
Economic forecasts suggest that the event could generate over $200 million in activity for the host province, based on results from previous Games. Additional anticipated benefits include infrastructure improvements, increased media attention, access to government and private funding, and the creation of a trained volunteer base.
The Canada Games are considered a key development step for Canadian athletes aiming to compete at national and international levels, including the Olympics and Paralympics.
This 32nd edition follows upcoming Games: St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador will host the 2025 Canada Summer Games from August 8 to 25, and Québec City will host the 2027 Canada Winter Games from February 27 to March 14, marking a return to the site of the first Canada Games held in 1967.
