New Brunswick seniors facing financial challenges can now apply for the 2025 Low-Income Seniors Benefit, which has increased to $616 this year. The program is designed to help older residents manage rising living costs and provide some relief with everyday household expenses.

More than 50,000 seniors across the province are expected to benefit from the payment.

Lyne Chantal Boudreau, the Minister responsible for seniors, emphasized the importance of the program in helping seniors manage household costs amid inflation. Cindy Miles, Minister of Social Development, echoed that sentiment, encouraging eligible seniors to apply before the deadline of December 31.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 60 years old, reside in New Brunswick, and receive a federal benefit under the Old Age Security Act. These include the Guaranteed Income Supplement for those 65 and older, or the Allowance and Allowance for the Survivor programs for individuals aged 60 to 64.

In households where both spouses receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement and live together, only one benefit will be issued. However, if the spouses live separately, such as when one is in long-term care, both may be eligible for the payment.

Applications are available online and at Service New Brunswick locations. For additional details or assistance, applicants can contact the Low-Income Seniors’ Benefit program by email at LISB-PAFR@snb.ca or call the toll-free line at 1-833-796-0944.
