Muhammad Breaks Into Saskatchewan’s 2023 Top Baby Names List

eHealth Saskatchewan unveiled the province’s top baby names for 2023 yesterday.

Leading the list, Olivia and Oliver emerged as the most selected names for girls and boys, marking Olivia’s ninth consecutive year at the top.

Following Olivia, the names Emma, Sophia, Charlotte, Ivy, and Ava were popular choices for girls, with Emma taking the second spot and causing Amelia to fall to eleventh. On the boys’ side, Oliver was chosen 63 times, with Noah and Liam trailing closely behind.

The year introduced some newcomer names to the list; Muhammad appeared for the first time on the boys’ list at nineteenth, and Isabella re-entered the girls’ list at thirteenth after an eight-year absence.

Names such as Willow, Abigail, James, and Benjamin were notable absences from the previous year’s top 20.

Per the news release, this data is based on a preliminary total of 12,832 live births registered in Saskatchewan by February 3, 2024, indicating a slight decrease from the 13,363 registrations in 2022. These figures represent births within the province and exclude those to Saskatchewan mothers who delivered outside its borders.
